Etymology of the word Spurtle: The original origin of Spurtle comes from the Greek word "σπάθη (spáthē) which was used to describe any broad blade made of wood or metal. That transitioned into "Spatha" in Latin which was a long, narrow, cavalry sword similar in shape to a gladius. From these two words we get many modern day words, such as Spatula, Spade, and also Spurtle. In our design of our Spurtle we tried to envision what Scottish adversaries of Rome would have originally been inspired by when naming it.
